Licensed venues from Helensburgh to Shellharbour have jumped on board a Great Northern Brewing Company-led campaign, which will see 1000 kegs of beer donated to pubs and clubs in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
“Let it Pour” fundraising events are being held across the weekend, with all proceeds from the donated kegs going to the Drought Relief Fund administered by Rotary Australia.
Lu Ristov from the Harp Hotel, one of the Wollongong venues taking part in the initiative, said there had been “an enormous reaction from locals keen to support the event”.
“I haven’t come across one patron not moved by the plight of our farmers right now,” Mr Ristov said.
“I don’t think we’ll have any hassle convincing our customers to get right behind Let it Pour this weekend and buy a beer for a bushie.”
Great Northern boss Mick McKeown said the brewer had also tipped in $250,000 and expected to raise more than $1 million this weekend.
