Mentoring Walk is an initiative started in 2016 by Bobbi Mahlab and Adina Jacobs who were aware of how mentoring is proven to help people succeed in their careers. But they also knew women have not able to access mentors easily and effectively,
Mentoring Walks has been successful for the relaxing way it connects experiences executive woman with aspiring professional women in a scenic one hour walk. Which is why the first Mentoring Walk on September 7 will start on the first week of Spring at North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club.
Anyone interested in being mentored during a leisurely peaceful walk at 7.45 in the morning is encouraged to register at www.mentorwalks.com.au.
Mercer leader Jo-Anne Bloch is sponsoring the program along with other senior women who work in business, professional service, government, not-for-profit and tertiary sectors.
“With the support of women from organisations such as KPMG, the University of Wollongong, Regional Development Australia, BlueScope and Big Fat Smile we have been able to get the program up and running,” Ms Block said.
“A group of wonderful women have already signed up as mentors.”
Those expected to benefit most are women who have been working two years or more who are interested in learning from those with experience and different perspectives.
Mentor Walks co-founder Bobbu Mahlab said mentees may have a particular problem to solve or just want to meet new people.
“Career women have issues big and small and often it is hard to find impartial people to go to for advice,” she said.
“Mentor Walks gives women access to experienced people that help them workshop issues and move forward.’’
