The side will take on a talented Port Kembla team that lost just two games during the regular season in what is sure to be a high-quality affair.
The Zebras were one of just two sides to push Lake Heights to a draw, a 1-1 deadlock back in round five. Lake Heights have had the wood over their rivals in more recent clashes, prevailing 2-0 in round 16 and 3-1 in the major semi-final a fortnight ago.
Port Kembla qualified for the grand final by defeating Lakeside 4-3 in a high-scoring preliminary final.
Both sides have made a habit of scoring goals throughout the season and Port Kembla coach Toni Minovski said his team needs to be on target in front of goal if they are to pull off the upset.
“The boys are very excited,” Minovski said. “They’ve played all year virtually for this moment. They’re very confident, they’ve worked really hard and there’s lots of excitement around.
“Lake Heights are a very good team, they’re virtually on for the whole game. We scored a lot of goals this year and we aim to continue to do that and somehow breakdown what’s been a very good defence.
“They have a great defence, we’ll have to work very hard to break them down, but we have scored over 100 goals across all competitions this season and hopefully we can score a few more.”
Elsewhere this weekend, Shellharbour Blue will face University in the 14 boys first division decider. Shellharbour blitzed Shellharbour White 5-1 in Saturday’s preliminary final, while University upset competition favourites Figtree 1-0.
University also booked a berth in the 15 boys first division grand final after triumphing over Fernhill 6-1. Uni will face South Coast United on Saturday.
South Coast United’s 12 boys first division side saw their season come to an end on Saturday, falling 3-2 to Bulli. The side will now face Figtree in a rematch of the major semi-final, won by Figtree 3-1.
