The girls qualified for Wednesday’s final by defeating Brisbane’s Kelvin Grove State College in extra time on Tuesday. With scores locked at 1-1 at full-time, Katia Turner fired the team into the final with a 74th minute, golden goal strike.
Rachel Salam opened the scoring with a goal in the 26th minute.
While the girls fought hard in the final Westfields proved too strong, with Bronte Connolly scoring a decisive hat-trick on the way to a 3-0 victory.
Played at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, the match was a tight affair throughout, with Holy Spirit unable to capitalise on a number of chances in front of goal.
While disappointed with the result, Holy Spirit coach Elise Battin was proud of the team’s effort in Wednesday’s final and throughout the entire competition, which started back in April.
