Taryn Brumfitt is not afraid to bare all to change people’s body image perceptions and hopes former Wollongong radio announcer Mel Greig will do the same – at least verbally.
The ex-Wave FM personality is to be interviewed on stage as part of Brumfitt’s “Embrace Yourself Tour”, spruiking her Body Image Movement at Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul on September 22.

“We’re really fascinated ... to get inside her head and to ask her about the relationship she has with her body,” Brumfitt said.
Greig has been very honest and open about her relationships and her battle with endometriosis, though until recently not so much about any struggles with her body image.
After quitting breakfast radio in the Illawarra, the bubbly blonde moved to Bondi and began a weight-loss journey with Who Magazine.
Brumfitt said she has chosen a personality in each city the tour stops by before giving a motivational talk of her own. The ticketed event will also include comedian Ellen Briggs as MC and a fashion parade in the name of women loving the body they’re in.
More than a decade after a naked image of the mother-of-thee went viral, Brumfitt continues to lead the charge to change society’s view of how a woman should look.
The documentary-maker and author has just released her second book Embrace Yourself, a “how to guide to loving your body” along with stories and setbacks of making the original documentary Embrace.
“Things like getting the film into festivals and getting knockbacks,” Brumfitt said.
Another major hiccup was the negativity she received after becoming friends with active-wear queen Lorna Jane Clarkson.
“People had a very much black and white approach and thought we shouldn’t be friends,” she said. “At that time [Clarkson] only portrayed one particular type of body and wasn’t very inclusive of body shapes.”
One of Brumfitt’s proud Body Image Movement achievements was born from that friendship, when Clarkson introduced a plus-size model for the first time.
