University have edged Kiama 28-22 to take out the under 17 Illawarra Rugby Union First XV competition.
The final match of a busy day of grand final action at Kiama Showground, the game promised to be an even affair, with University claiming a 20-7 major semi-final victory over Kiama a fortnight ago.
Kiama fought hard for the entire match, but ultimately University proved too good, repeating their semi-final performance to claim the title.
The win concludes a successful season for University, in which they lost just one match, a 14-10 defeat to Kiama in July.
While the day may not have finished well for the Kiama faithful, it certainly started positively, with the under 10s reigning supreme.
Heading into the grand final as favourites, the under 10s claimed a 26-10 victory over Campbelltown.
The Harlequins were able to reverse that result in the under 12s, however, picking up the second of their grand final victories for the day.
While the locals tried hard, they were unable to come away with the victory, falling 21-14.
The Campbelltown under 12s victory came after their under 11s proved far too good for Camden, with the mercy rule invoked after the Harlequins jumped out to a 40-0 lead.
The win completed an undefeated season for the Campbelltown side.
Camden took out the two remaining titles, winning the under 13s and combined under 14/15 second XV competition.
The under 13s came up against a confident Shamrocks/Tech Tahs side that had upset Kiama a week earlier, but the Rams class shone throughout, recording a 36-7 victory.
And the second XV side took out what was arguably the match of the day, overcoming local rivals Campbelltown 33-22.
The win reversed a 29-21 Campbelltown victory in the major semi-final and was just the Harlequins second defeat for the season.
