Registrations launch on Thursday for the Beach Water Polo Fours, a modified version of the Olympic sport which Australian women’s gold in Sydney 2000 and bronze in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
It comes after Illawarra was well represented at the first ever beach fours tournament in Sydney last year.
“Everyone from Illawarra Water Polo had a great time at the first event and the format was interesting and really fun,” Illawarra Water Polo Association president Patrick Steele said.
Unlike regular Water Polo, continuous play in this event means that there is no ‘up-and-back’ swimming required, and the ball is always in play. Other rule modifications include a reduced field size and the ability to substitute from anywhere on the field at any time.
