A few months ago the idea of racing for a seven figure sum would have felt more fiction than fact for Jason Magri, but the trainer now hopes it becomes a reality in the Million Dollar Chase.
The Kemps Creek conditioner is set to start Zipping Mitzy in Bulli’s Regional Final of the lucrative race series on Saturday night.
The top two finishes in the feature will book their spot in the semis for the $1 million decider at Wentworth Park next month.
"To make a final of a $1 million race would be something you dream of so you just have to aim them up at the right qualifiers and hopefully we've done that,” Magri said.
Zipping Mitzy is a $3.50 second favourite with TAB for the Bulli final after finishing second in her heat last week. Magri’s sprinter copped a check before rallying late to qualify behind Embye, which clocked an impressive 28.54 seconds.
The performance saw Embye installed as the $2.20 favourite for the final, where he will jump from box one. Zipping Mitzy has also drawn favourable in box eight.
"Other than the one box, the eight is the next best thing because she can zip along the outside,” Magri said.
"She's a good chance if she can come out and nail the start.
"[Embye] will be hard to beat though. He knocked her over at that first turn in the heats and ended up beating her.
"It was a good run considering what she lost after the check and would have run even better time had she not. She is still going well since then.”
Zipping Mitzy has shown Magri ability from the get-go.
The bitch was given to the trainer by prominent breeders Martin and Fiona Hallinan and is from a litter by Barcia Bale out of Crafty Lady.
“She has always shown us something since day one,” Magri said. “I always thought she had some ability and it’s just been a matter of her showing it on the track.”
