The very first Mentor Walk for Women in Wollongong amazed Sydney founders Bobbi Mahlab and Adina Jacobs who came up with the idea for the new mentoring program in 2016.
Their goal was to help women succeed in their chosen career by providing them easy access to mentors.
But the two founders have never seen so many mentors and mentees turn out like they did this month at North Beach in Wollongong.
Ms Jacobs described the turnout as incredible.
“This is the biggest walk we have had so far and this is out 40th walk today,” she said.
Ms Mahlab said around 45 people generally turned out in Sydney and there were more than 80 at North Beach last week.
“Wollongong has really rocked,” she said.
Ms Mahlad said Mentor Walks are being held every two months in Wollongong and anyone who would like to sign on to be a mentor or mentee can do so at mentorwalks.com.au .
“It has been proven that if people have a mentor it helps them accelerate their career,” she said.
“We also know that walking is good for us. And when you combine walking and talking there is no better combination. What Mentor Walks is about is about good women helping good women succeed. Wollongong has been fantastic.”
