Championing a future for Australian art that is innovative, inclusive and diverse, the program is a platform designed to showcase performing artists taking creative risks.
Artists developing theatre practices in new, experimental and contemporary ways, multi-artform and interdisciplinary practices, as well as works that can activate non-traditional performance spaces in IPAC, the Wollongong Town Hall and the Wollongong Arts Precinct are highly encouraged.
Merrigong is committed to providing a context and home for local artists (including artists who live elsewhere but have a strong connection to the region) to further develop their practice through performance platforms and development opportunities.
Next year selected works will be programmed alongside key professional productions.
“With a focus on local and emerging artists and experimentation, MerrigongX is a showcase for new works from some of our boldest voices,” says Leland Kean, Merrigong’s Artistic Development Manager.
“We look forward to hearing about new works, and are excited to present a broad, innovative and diverse range of works to audiences.”
This year the program showcased new work from independent and emerging artists including Mark Rogers, Hannah Goodwin and Pippa Ellams, and independent companies Ten Tonne Sparrow and David Williams’ Alternative Facts.
