Skip Dafna Orbach caught the train from Sydney and teamed up with her St Johns Park clubmate and Joelen Bianchetto, and Towradgi Grade 3 pennant bowlers Phil Matthews and Greg Jones to beat 15 opponents and claim the $400 top prize.
Orbach and partners finished on 3wins+22 to win by a shot from Shane Gill (skip), Kay Gill, Mick Ugarenko and Julie Woods (3wins+21), who collected $300.
Third-placed Norm Ring (skip), Rhonda Fisher, Steve Richards and Linda Clarke (2.5wins+16) took home $200 and were the only other unbeaten team.
The format was two male and two female bowlers playing three games of 12 ends, for a total prize pool of $1120.
Orbach said there was no planning over how their composite side was formed.
‘’We know Phil and Greg socially but we didn’t plan to play with them. I got in touch with Pete Bonsor (Towradgi bowls coordinator) asking if he could find a couple of men to join our team and that’s how we teamed up. It was one of those random things that worked out so well.’’
Orbach and partners were in fourth spot on 2wins+15 heading into game three and their seven shot victory proved just enough to win the event.
The tournament also featured a prize for each game winner with Ron Davidson and partners the top side in Game 1; Jack Forbes’ team winning Game 2 and Pete Bonsor the best Game 3 winner.
Bonsor said it was likely the event would return to being played on a Sunday after originally being washed out and rescheduled to a Thursday.
‘’We were happy with the turnout. It was very competitive with three teams unbeaten and no team losing all three games,’’ he said.
