It leaves him chomping at the bit ahead of the NBL Blitz, which tips off on Thursday morning in Bendigo – though he’s still shaking off jetlag having returned from Boomers duty on Tuesday.
“I got back yesterday so it was 11 days and a couple of time zones but any time you get to put the green and gold on, it’s pretty cool,” Blanchfield said.
“I watched the games while I was away but 60 or 70 per cent of he stream was pretty blurry for me, I don’t know if it was the internet or what.
“Obviously the Adelaide game was tough, it was the first actual hit-out for the guys and it’s always really about finding your feet and finding yourself as a group to see where you’re at.
“I thought the way the guys came back and responded against Sydney was massive. In front of a home crowd, they only lost by six and it was our second actual game, we’ve only had one full session as a full team.
“This weekend at the Blitz is going to be fun. We can put some stuff in place and really go after it as a group. I think we’re going to surprise some teams this year and I’m looking forward to it.”
The Hawks will open the Blitz at 11am Thursday against Brisbane. They’ll shift to Ballarat on Saturday to take on New Zealand at 5.30pm and will back up 24 hours later with their final game of the tournament against Melbourne United.
All games will be streamed live via the NBL’s twitter handle.
