RFS had 10 crews in attendance.
5:50pm: Police have also been called to the scene and are believed to be speaking with a witness.
Lake Illawarra Police District chief inspector Paul Allman said there was no danger to houses.
5:45pm: “At this stage we’ve got trucks in various spots around the place … with a bulk water tanker on the way,” said a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman.
Four fire crews from Fire & Rescue NSW are in attendance, with “eight or more” RFS crews.
Earlier: Firefighters are responding to a fire at a sports oval on Croome Road in Albion Park Rail.
Crews from Fire and Rescue NSW are attending, along with crews from the Rural Fire Service.
It’s understood there are four spot-fires near the BMX Club, with emergency services called around 5:10pm.
It comes after an earlier grass fire at nearby Burroo Street in Albion Park Rail, which forced the closure of the South Coast rail line temporarily.
Meantime the the RFS is encouraging residents to drop by their local fire station this Saturday and Sunday to talk about how to prepare their homes and families for the bush fire season.
