Gerroa’s Sally Fitzgibbons has her eyes firmly fixed on the World Surfing Games gold medal after making it through to the semi-finals unscathed on Wednesday.

Fitzgibbons maintained her perfect record by winning her heat in round five with a score of 14.3, ahead of fellow Australian and world qualifying competitor Holly Wawn (12) and France’s Pauline Ado (10.5) in Japan.
Wawn had to work hard to earn her second place in round five though, just getting the score she needed on the hooter to end the heat.
Fitzgibbons, South African Bianca Buitendag and New Zealand’s Paige Hareb are also through as they await the final repechage survivors.
A gold medal would prove a season highlight for Fitzgibbons, who is currently seventh overall in the World Surf League standings with two rounds remaining.
South Coast defending champion Tyler Wright has missed the past three WSL events due to illness, as Steph Gilmore leads the title charge.
