Jennifer Darby, born and bred in the ‘Gong’ has devoted 43 years to the industry and son Andrew, a TIGS’ graduate has clocked up another 12 years.
Their 100 plus years of experience has resulted in what is now the Illawarra’s longest running and professional strata management practice.
In the 1970s a typical strata building was six red brick flats, carports out the back and was affectionately known as a ‘six pack’.

Today a strata complex could contain 300 plus units and commercial components with a very sophisticated management structure to ensure costs are shared fairly.
Long term maintenance of these huge structures has become critical with ‘capital works funding’ a priority that needs careful management.
Accordingly, the Government and industry met these needs with the implementation of the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015.
The ‘new’ Act, the first major reform in 20 years, also provided for more clarity and accountability by managing agents and gave owners a better opportunity to be involved in meetings and decision making using modern technology.
Chris Darby Strata has adopted and embraced the new ideas but still offers the old-fashioned family service that has become its trademark.
For clients’ convenience, their office is open and staffed from 8am to 6pm and provides an after hours emergency assistance service.
Meetings are held at times and at venues decided by property owners. They have a dedicated maintenance team, headed by Paul Jones and a unique ‘on-site’ inspector, David Johnson who will identify issues as they arise.
Both Paul and David have a wealth of experience in property maintenance and will assist in the protection of the property owners’ valuable assets. For simplicity and transparency, Chris Darby Strata has a ‘single’ monthly fee and offers shorter (two year) agreements with a ‘fixed fee’ for the term.
Each fully trained and certified manager has a dedicated, full time assistant to ensure owners’ needs and enquiries can be dealt with efficiently.
Part of their success can be attributed to their close ties and involvement with the industry’s peak body, Strata Community Australia that works constantly with Government for the betterment of the sector. (Jennifer is a past vice president and Chris was recently awarded prestigious life membership of the organisation).
Whether you own a small duplex or a penthouse in a large scheme, Chris Darby Strata can offer owners the knowledgeable, personal service they deserve.
