A motorcyclist collided with a car on the Princes Highway at Beattie Avenue, shortly after 11am.
The man came to rest in the middle of the road. Early reports indicate he is not moving.
Meantime, traffic is banked up beyond Memorial Drive northbound, and almost to Austinmer for motorists heading south.
Southbound traffic is facing of queues of more than 3km.
NSW Ambulance paramedics are treating the man at the crash site.
Motorists are advise to avoid the area, if possible.
Update 12.05pm: The rider has been assisted into an ambulance.
The roadway is clear but traffic in the area remains heavy.
12.50pm: Traffic is flowing in both directions.
1.45pm: The injured motorcyclist, aged 50, has been airlifted to St George Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
