Subject to ground availability, the Blues play four Shield games a year at the SCG, with the fifth played in a regional town.
That town has been Wollongong for the past two years, with North Dalton Park hosting two Sheffield Shield games and a Futures League match in that time.
There likely won’t be a third, however, with Cricket NSW attempting to rotate Shield games around country NSW.
While no fixtures have been confirmed, the Wagga Wagga Cricket Association announced on Tuesday morning that the Blues will play one game in Wagga this season. The region will also host a Futures League match, the Association revealed.
Cricket NSW’s attempts to confirm a Sheffield Shield schedule have been made harder by the pending demolition of Allianz Stadium, with the availability of the neighbouring Sydney Cricket Ground still unclear.
What is clear, however, is that the SCG will be unavailable for the Sheffield Shield final, with the match scheduled to take place from March 28 to April 1.
The demolition of Allianz Stadium means the SCG will play host to the Sydney Roosters and Waratahs, along with the Swans.
Wollongong is considered the leading front-runner to host the Shield final if the Blues take out the minor premiership.
Such a performance would require a considerable turnaround by Phil Jaques’ men, however, with the Blues finishing the 2017-18 season in fifth place.
The consideration confirms Cricket NSW's regard for the facilities at North Dalton Park, with players and officials praising the venue in previous seasons.
