Like every week, manager Jonathan Christley served up a fruit platter to a children’s class only to be met by horror from the parents – the platter consisted of only strawberries.
Eventually they came around and understood Mr Christley’s point that people needed to start buying the fruit again to support strawberry farmers.
“They basically aren’t set up and don’t particularly want donations, they want people to eat strawberries,” he said.
“We started talking about having an event where people get over their phobia.”
This Saturday September 29, the circus will host free classes alongside platters of delicious strawberries and cream from 9am to 1pm – an event Mr Christley hopes inspires others to follow suit.
“Could be anything like a strawberry shake Sunday, or a strawberry daiquiri happy hour at a bar,” he said. “Just to get people back to strawberries.”
Classes are staged in 40 minute sessions and are suited to adults and children.
They will include learning basics in aerials, tumbling, hoola hooping and circus games – bookings are essential.
Donations will also be taking for Bulli charity Need A Feed and refugee organisation SCARF.
Strawberries and Cream Circus runs from 9am to 1pm Saturday September 29 – 3/3 Princes Highway, Fairy Meadow. Book via www.trybooking.com/YMIY
