The side qualified for Saturday’s final by taking out the Trophy final of the Southern Division in Dubbo the previous weekend, with a comprehensive 30-0 victory over Group 16.
This past weekend saw the team travel up to Charlestown, Lake Macquarie to face the Central Coast Roosters in their own backyard.
The two teams played out a high-quality match, with Illawarra fighting hard throughout the entire game.
Ultimately, however, Central Coast proved too good for their southern rivals, claiming the Trophy final with a 22-14 victory.
Joe Duggan was among the Illawarra’s best, crossing for two tries, with Joshua Manovski also coming away with a four-pointer.
The Cup final saw NRL Victoria take on the north coast’s Group Two, with the Victorians claiming a 28-16 victory. Newcastle won the Plate final.
