Star midfielder Liana Danakos joined an ever-growing contingent of Illawarra Stingrays weapons at the Western Sydney Wanderers after penning a deal at the club for the upcoming W-League season.
The 23-year-old makes the switch from Canberra United after also playing a major role for the Stingrays throughout the 2018 NSW National Premier League campaign.
“I’ve spent the last few seasons away from home so it’s nice to come home and play in front of my family and friends. I’m really excited to play in front of them and the amazing Wanderers members and fans,” Danaskos said.
“As an individual, I’d like to cement my spot in the starting line-up. I’m new to the club, so I’m looking forward to learning from the girls in the team.
“I’m so thrilled to have joined a team with such good skill and performance, so I guess the goal as a team is to obviously make finals and go all the way.”
Danakos joins Stingrays teammates Caitlin Cooper and Erica Halloway in Sydney’s west.
Cooper returns from a stint with arch rivals Sydney FC while Halloway is back for her fourth season in red and black.
Former Stingray Caitlin Jarvie has also signed for the club.
Illawarra’s Tilly Kramer and Katelyn Leadbeatter were also with the Wanderers last season.
The Wanderers, who will be coached by new mentor Dan Barrett, begin their campaign with a Sydney derby against the Sky Blues at Marconi Stadium on Thursday, October 25.
