Like their younger sister, Justin (2013) and Matthew (2010) Mears also held the position of school captain during their days at Dapto HS.
But during her year 12 graduation, Ashley was quick to point out that she was the best Mears’ captain at the school.
“Obviously me,” the teenager joked when asked which sibling had been the best captain.
“Maybe we’re all pretty equal, but we’re always trying to outdo each other.
“There’s always constant banter between us arguing who has done more for the school during their stint as captain.”
Ashley said being captain really helped her confidence and public speaking abilities.
She added there was a bit of pressure on her to follow in her brothers’ footsteps to become school captain.
But on a serious note, the trio were ecstatic to be the first three siblings to hold the school captain position.
Ashley was also looking forward to doing well in her HSC exams in October with the hope of being accepted to the University of Wollongong.
But while both her brothers are now exercise physiologists, the 18-year-old wants to study nutrition and dietetics.
She did however admit to mixed emotions about leaving Dapto HS.
“The school has played a huge role in my family’s lives, so it’s going to be hard to say goodbye,” she said.
“It’s also been a really good school with great teachers and a really good principal.
“I’m going to miss it but I’m still excited to see what the future brings.”
