Massacred kangaroos left on the side of the road have shocked Southern Highlands residents and passersby.
East Kangaloon’s Tourist Road was left in an unsightly state with the discovery of between four and six kangaroo carcasses.
All the bodies were heavily mutilated, including one baby joey.
East Kangaloon resident Kerstin Elias said she was quite distressed when she made the grim discovery.
Ms Elias reported this to the police.
“I’m from Germany and there’s no wildlife there,” she said.
“Australia has heaps and there is no respect for it.”
Ms Elias was frustrated that people didn’t even know the difference between a kangaroo and a wallaby, which were both native Australian animals.
She urged people not to shoot the kangaroos as she did not believe they were pests.
A council spokesman said a complaint was made through the customer call centre about the massacred kangaroos on Saturday morning, September 22.
He said to the best of his knowledge rangers didn’t attend the site but the call centre then contacted police.
The spokesman said council was in the process of diverting outdoor staff from other jobs to clean up the carcasses on the East Kangaloon roadside.
He said anyone wishing to cull kangaroos needed to seek approval from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

According to the National Parks and Wildlife Service website the licensee must keep a true and accurate record of the species and number of animals harmed under this license.
Anyone with any information regarding this killing of kangaroos is urged to contact police on 4869 7899, RSPCA or Wingecarribee Shire Council rangers on 4868 0888.
