The Sydney man had reportedly stopped to take a break during a walk with friends when the accident happened.
A NSW Police spokesperson said officers from Wollongong Local Area Command rushed to the scene at 12.40pm on Saturday.
A rescue operation commenced, however the man was found deceased.
It is understood the victim was walking with a group of friends on a track that was accessed near Clifton School Parade.
When the group stopped for a break, he sat down but slipped 20 metres in loose gravel before falling a further 40 metres and landing on rocks near an old road area.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said emergency crews and a rescue helicopter worked with police to retrieve the body.
Sea Cliff Bridge was closed for a short while but has now reopened to traffic.
Police set up a crime scene to investigate the circumstances that led to the fall and are encouraging witnesses to come forward.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
