The woman, aged in her 20s, was driving a blue Hyundai Getz along Picton Road.
At about 1.20pm, when she was in the vicinity of the Cordeaux Dam turnoff, the car left the road and crashed through trees.
The car veered off the road at a straight two-lane stretch of Picton Road which is separated by double yellow lines but no median barriers.
At this this stage it is unclear which direction the driver was travelling and whether she veered off to the left of the road or crossed over into the opposite lane and then the bush on the other side.
The woman, who was the sole occupant, died at the scene.
Officers from Camden Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Investigations are continuing and anyone with information or dash cam vision is urged to come forward.
