The award recognises volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help run, promote and grow women’s football in the Illawarra.
Hayleigh is a respected member of the club and greatly appreciated by her peers for her tireless work on and off the field.
“I was shocked, I didn’t expect it at all,” she said.
“It meant a lot.”
Hayleigh has helped grow the Kiama women’s teams from only a single side two years ago to three in the 2018 season.
Beringer, 32, who has played in the Illawarra competition since she was 15, has also been on the Kiama Quarriers Club committee for 10 years. “We started with one team and now we have three teams in only a few years, with possibly a fourth team next year,” she said.
“Two out of three of our sides made the finals this year, so we are a strong club within the competition.”
Beringer said Kiama’s football scene was growing from strength to strength.
“It’s the perfect example of growth.”
