Activate Events director Robert Battocchio said the run will be held in the Wollongong Harbour and North Beach area.
The activity will add to the atmosphere along the foreshore on the same days as 10,000 cyclists taking part in the MS Sydney to Gong ride.
“My role is the run director working alongside MS to launch the run,” he said.
“It’s an exciting development and heavily geared at the local Illawarra runner and family community. All fund-raising proceeds go to MS”.
The MS Wellness Run aims to build on the MS Sydney to Gong success.
A new MS Wellness Zone will be established on the day and Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI) is the presenting partner.
The inaugural Wellness Run is also about raising awareness and funds to help those living with multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis is the most common neurological disease in young adults and diagnosis is typically between 20 and 40 years of age, although onset of symptoms may be earlier.
The symptoms are varied and unpredictable, depending on which part of the central nervous system is affected and to what degree.
Some symptoms are immediately obvious. Others, such as fatigue, numbness and cognitive fog, can be invisible.
The MS Wellness Run is being billed as perfect for family members and friends not participating in the MS Sydney to Gong ride but who still want participate on the day.
They will get to join the cyclists in the MS Wellness Zone after the ride. The new designated area will have a range of entertainment and food with a theme of healthy, active and positive lifestyles.
