Despite the weekend moving from Mothers’ Day to October 6 and 7, more than 50 young people have registered for the children’s workshop and concert run by Eric Dunan from the Wollongong Conservatorium.
Event spokesman Chris Ruhle said they were still taking registrations for the the Saturday morning workshop at the local Uniting Church, which will include one big band and several smaller bands.
The musicians will perform alongside established jazz musicians at the conclusion, with a concert in Apex Park from midday.
“The town embraces it, it’s a great location … the parks are fantastic for outdoor concerts,” Mr Ruhle said.
Other highlights of the weekend include a 25th anniversary concert by ARIA award winners Wanderlust – six of Australia’s best jazz instrumentalists – at Berry Bowling Club on the Saturday night.
Sunday the festival continues with up-and-coming jazz star Frances Madden performing a lunch time concert with Borbala Bodonyi, Carl Dewhurst, Brett Hirst and Tim Geldins at Coolangatta Estate Winery.
Berry Jazz is presented by SIMA, the Sydney Improvised Music Association in partnership with the Berry Chamber Of Commerce & Tourism.
