Ever since the announcement speculation has been rife as to whether the world’s fastest man would actually take the pitch at Wollongong’s WIN Stadium on Friday night.
Bolt, the eight-time Olympic gold medallist, is trying to kick start a professional football career with the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League.
The Mariners will take on our very own Wollongong Wolves in a trial game on Friday night in our marquee sporting venue.
There has been conjecture whether the 32-year old world sporting superstar would take actually the field but the Mariners have named him as part of their travelling squad.
The fact Bolt is preparing to make an appearance in the Wollongong friendly has made international news.
While the weather forecast is not on the friendly side a large crowd is expected to turn out nonetheless. If Bolt does take the field cameras from all around the country will be there to capture his every move. It is a unique sporting spectacle for the region.
The Wolves are largely made up of players who hold down day jobs.
Kids will be dragging their parents along in the hope their teacher that plays for the Wolves comes up against the great Usain Bolt.
Wollongong Wolves coach and former Socceroo Luke Wilkshire has agreed it will present a great opportunity for his squad of players, playing both against Bolt and an A-League side.
"It gives those guys the opportunity in a game as we have watched them in training,” Wilkshire told the Mercury.
"They have been adapting to the intensity at training and this tops it off.
"It's a great opportunity to prove to us and the region as a whole that we have the talent down here."
"It's obviously a big draw card having the fastest man in the world down here, but it doesn't change what we will do,"
Friday’s game is set to kick-off at 7.30 pm at WIN Stadium. Rain, hail or shine make sure you get along and support it.
