The centre – which hosts drug and alcohol free live music events, workshops, supports groups and other programs for young people – was officially opened in July 1993.
The former Wollongong Art Gallery building on Burelli Street, was transformed by Youth Services after a suggestion from the then Young Lord Mayor Darren Newton.
During the school holidays the Youth Centre will feature hang out sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with will be basketball, pool, table tennis, air hockey, TV, foosball table and a chill-out room.
A Music for the Mind concert will also be held on Friday October 12, as part of Mental Health Month. Local bands will play from 6pm.
People of all ages – including people from its past – are invited to the 25th Birthday Open Day on Saturday October 13 from 11am to 4pm. There will be displays of the Youth Centre’s people and its history, celebration cake, live performances and more.
