Review your business
The benefits of entering the Awards extend well beyond winning. Entrants have the opportunity to review their business operations, reconnect with their vision and strategy, and measure their performance against objectives.

Celebrate success
Most businesses recognise that their success is a result of the people they have in their team. The Awards is a great way to review team highlights over the previous 12-24 months, and recognise those who have contributed to the success of the business.
Rewards and recognition
For finalists, bringing along their staff to the Gala Awards Ceremony is a great opportunity to recognise and reward their team for the role they play in making their business a success. The format of the night presents itself as a great opportunity for attendees to network with other businesses and IBC members in the Illawarra.
A sense of pride
Working for a recognised or awarded business boosts the reputation of businesses and business people across the region. Finalists gain well-deserved recognition throughout the Awards process that continues beyond the night.
Put a spotlight on passion
There are many businesses in the Illawarra that are making outstanding, valuable, or unique contributions to the business community, which often goes unnoticed. Entrants have the opportunity to bring awareness to the work they are doing and gain the recognition it deserves.
Represent the Illawarra
Winners of 12 aligned categories will go on to represent the region at the NSW Business Chamber State Awards on November 23 in Sydney. This is an extremely prestigious opportunity, gaining statewide exposure for themselves and the Illawarra.
Judging
All applications have been assessed by an independent expert judging panel made up of business owners, business professionals and government representatives from the Illawarra and surrounding regions.
Each application was rigorously reviewed by two judges for each award category, while the entire judging process was overseen by independent auditor, KPMG.
Finalists were determined by the quality of written submissions, while final winners for each category will be determined by a combination of 50 per cent written (online) responses and 50 per cent face to face interview.
Professor Paul Wellings CBE, Vice Chancellor, University of Wollongong, is the ambassador of judges while Warwick Shanks, the managing partner of Wollongong, KPMG, is the auditor of judges.
Businesses cannot enter categories they won the previous year, and must be in operation for at least two years at time of entry, except for the Start Up Superstar and City Centre Business Excellence categories.
Winners will be announced at the IMB Bank Illawarra Business Awards on October 19 at WIN Entertainment Centre, Wollongong.
The IMB Bank Illawarra Business of the Year award recognises the overall Illawarra business winner as voted by the entire judging panel from all categories. The winner is considered an “all-rounder” with superior performance shown against all criteria.
