The house, located at 105 Shoalhaven Street, Kiama, is about a month away from completion.
Kiama Lions have long planned to renovate the Kiama council-owned building, previously an unoccupied cottage, for use as a holiday respite home for carers.
Kiama council has entered into a long-term peppercorn lease agreement with the Lions Club.
Kiama Lions have been responsible for the major costs of refurbishment.
The Lions club also conducted their own fundraising for the project, in addition to the government funding.
The latest funding announcement brings the NSW Government’s contribution to $50,000 towards this project.
Member for Kiama Gareth Ward joined Jerry Granger-Holcombe and other representatives from the Kiama Lions Club to make the announcement
“There are literally thousands of dedicated carers across our region and it is only fair that we develop avenues of support and respite for them to continue to do their valuable and incredible work,” Mr Ward said.
“This was an idea of Kiama Lions Club past president Ray Redgrave, who wanted to turn an old Kiama cottage into a respite centre for sick people, carers and families.”
A small committee was then formed, including Jerry Granger-Holcombe, Peter Scifleet and Tony Grainger.
