The result of the “non- binding plebiscite” on the issue of marriage equality indicated overwhelmingly, the people of Australia believed discrimination to be unacceptable in our democratic system.

Yet, with the ink barely dry on the marriage equality legislation; Malcolm Turnbull with an eye to remaining leader of the Liberal Party and PM, buckled to the LNP’s ultra conservatives. “Malleable Mal” hoping to gain sufficient “brownie points” to remain in office, provided the ultra conservatives of the LNP an alternative avenue by which to prosecute their discriminatory agenda.

An “expert panel”, with that arch old conservative Phillip Ruddock as chairman, was created to conduct an “Inquiry into Religious Freedom!”

The Terms of Reference for the inquiry included the holding of “secret meetings” and, for its final recommendations to be confidential only to the prime minister and Cabinet.

This absence of transparency and of political accountability has the potential for even worse discrimination to be applied against individuals such as school teachers or pupils who do not fit the atypical mould.

The secrecy associated with the Inquiry into Religious Freedom Inquiry itself was obviously, politically conspired and as such is clearly undemocratic.

In response for  taking MR Adrian Devlin as a misogynist and a old school  Australian Catholic,he is neither. Adrian is harmless and not a bad person.

To put in perspective Adrian is an ex-tennis player so that might be the reason for his reclusive thoughts.

In wanting to reduce immigration to NSW by fifty percent, Premier Gladys Berejiklian is indeed looking a gift horse in the mouth.

The vast bulk of our immigrants have been provided with a huge investment of social capital, in their health, education and training by the tax payers of their own countries.  They are  now valuable assets which we should welcome with open arms.

To do otherwise because of our government's failure to develop infrastructure in the past, is like someone refusing the gift of a new car because they have nowhere to garage it.

In broad terms the solution is of course to create conditions such that future immigrants will tend to settle in regional areas of NSW, rather than in Sydney, as has been the case previously.
