Cameron Howes, 26, appeared in Nowra Local Court on Friday, October 12, where he was placed on an 18-month intensive corrections order – one step below full-time jail – which will require him to perform 450 hours of unpaid community service work.

Howes pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of affray and one count of use carriage service to offend after a brawl outside Postman's Tavern on November 19, 2017. 

However, Magistrate Gabriel Fleming found him guilty after a hearing earlier this year.

CCTV footage from the night shows Howes throwing the first punch inside the venue at 12.45am. 

Howes knocked 26-year-old William Dendy unconscious, causing him to fall to the ground. Others soon join in, including a woman who was later pulled away from the violent incident. 

According to court documents, Dendy suffered swelling, bruising and lacerations to his left eye socket, swelling and abrasions to his nose and swelling to his jaw. 

On Friday, Magistrate Fleming labelled Howes’ behaviour "absolutely appalling".

“If Mr Dendy didn’t get up you’d be wearing a green [prison] tracksuit for years,” she said.

The court heard Howes later boasted about the brawl in a video posted to Instagram.

“I seen your life boy, I seen your f—king life when I knocked you out,” Howes yelled into the camera.

“And them f—king people let you live.”

Outside court Howes showed little remorse for his actions. 

“I have a lot of things to apologise for in my life, there’s a lot of things I’ve done wrong but not that night,” he said.

Howes was also ordered to attend psychological and alcohol dependency counselling as part of his sentence.

Meantime Dendy, is also facing charges stemming from the fight and will face Nowra Local Court on October 30.
