Irish Mythen wowed crowds in 2016 and is welcomed back next year.
A total of 155 artists are on the lineup, 75 new to the festival, while it will be the event’s largest ever female contingent.
“With 45 per cent representation in the acts and actual participant numbers, it’s a recognition of the contribution women have made to the folk music movement,” festival director David De Santi said.
Acts include Ted Egan, The Pigs, Emily Wurramara and The Mission Songs Project, Cigany Weaver, Co-cheol, Hello Tut Tut, Highlander, Jodi Martin Band, Kate Pass Kohesia Ensemble, Liam Gerner, Matt Katsis, Michael Waugh, the Miriam Lieberman Trio, Rob Longstaff, Super Rats, Tin Star and The Long Johns.
International acts include Albi & The Wolves and Jenny Mitchell from New Zealand, Coral Reid and Winter Wilson from the UK, Dennis J Leise and Ken Field’s Hoot Band from the US, and Fru Skaggerak from Sweden.
The Illawarra Folk Festival runs from January 17 to 20 at Bulli Showgrounds.
