Even after the large Sydney zoo enjoyed a Royal visit by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex the small family run wildlife park near Helensburgh was stills in front after hitting the lead on the weekend.
At midday on Tuesday shortly after Harry and Meghan’s visit Taronga had 226,780 followers and 231,275 likes.
But Symbio was still ahead with 231,489 likes and 232,840 followers.
For marketing and creative services manager Kevin Fallon the achievement is the realisation of a goal he set himself to achieve 3.5 years ago.
Mr Fallon has worked hard on the target by posting cute videos that have gone viral on social media around the world.
But surpassing Taronga is taking a little while to sink in.
“It is a pretty massive feat given they are a massive institution, have a huge budget and get hundreds of thousands of visitors each year,” he said.
“They also have thousands more animals and have been around for 100 years. And they capture a majority of tourism traffic to Sydney.”
No sooner had Symbio hit the lead than Mr Fallon set himself a new target.
Overtaking Taronga saw the Radnidge family business become the second most followed zoo or wildlife park in the country.
Australia Zoo is still number one by a long way with 434,428 people liking its page and 441,551 followers.
Mr Fallon is confident though.
“We also typically have more engagement per week than all other zoos, wildlife parks and tourism reliant business’s in the entire country combined,” he said.
