Taylor Weule and Callum Harris took their part in the UoW Sustainability Festival by showing people how to make their own beeswax lunch wrappers – safe and reusable packaging to replace cling wrap on sandwiches.
The wrappers are selling in mainstream stores but they’re not cheap. That’s where Mr Weule said he could help – they could make them for about 30c a pop.
“We got some cotton from the Salvos and beeswax from local bee farmers down this way,” he said.
“We sprinkled the wax on top of the cotton, then put them between some baking paper, and ironed it in. They last for a couple of months. It’s healthy and safe to use – the wax is an odour deterrent, and there’s not too much contamination risk.”
Mr Weule said he learned how to make the wraps by finding online tutorial videos.
