The second such event as part of a new Illawarra coaching network initiative, the event aims to help establish a network of coaches across a range of sports in the Illawarra that can lean on each other for advice. McKeon follows Illawarra Hawks coach Rob Beveridge, who spoke at the first forum.
Illawarra Academy of Sport CEO John Armstrong has played a key role in establishing the network and will be leading the discussion.
“The Illawarra coaching network is about providing a forum for coaches,” Armstrong said. “We’ve found coaches learn the most from sharing with each other.
“We’ll be facilitating discussion among the coaches and the best outcome for us is that these coaches talk to each other outside of these forums and already after the first it has started happening.”
A former Olympian, McKeon has blazed a trail in the swimming coaching world and possesses over 30 of experience in the sport. He is currently the NSW head coach.
“The big topic Ron will focus on will be the role programming has within coaching. How important it is to be organised and have a calendar of important dates. It’s crucial in swimming in particular, with a plethora of events, but also in many other sports.”
Coaches of all capabilities are welcome to attend, with proceedings commencing at Kiama Rugby Club at 6pm.
