Kanopy will be available online to members of Wollongong City Libraries with films such as Hunt For the Wilderpeople, The Dressmaker, thought-provoking documentaries like That Sugar Film and Invisible Threat plus Oscar-nominated greats such as I Am Not Your Negro.
“Not only can you use this service anywhere but it can also be streamed from any computer, smart TV or mobile device,” Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said.
Kanopy was founded in Perth in 2008 and the global platform has more than 5 million users. It provides access to films of unique social and cultural value and films that are often difficult or impossible to access elsewhere.
The service complements a range of other digital platforms on offer through the libraries such as online short courses, e-books, plus digital magazines and journals.
“With all the welcome wet weather we’ve had recently, now’s the perfect time to grab a blanket, bring out the snacks and enjoy a movie night at home with friends and family,” Cr Bradbery said.
