The Mercury understands the circumstances are not being treated as suspicious.
Earlier: Marine Rescue is currently assisting police around Lake Illawarra near Warrawong after reports of a “person unaccounted for” on Tuesday afternoon.
A rescue helicopter was also tasked to the operation which began around 4:10pm near the rowing club on Northcliffe Drive, a NSW Police spokesman said.
It’s believed a man’s car and walker were found nearby.
Emergency services are conducting a search of the area.
