Kiama Village owners ISPT Super Property provided more development details on Monday.
For years Kiama residents have complained about the car park – the rough surface, the incline it was built on, the tight parking spaces and the inadequate amount of spaces at times.
If the plans go ahead, shoppers have been assured car park improvements will allow for a greater volume of traffic, better access to shops for motorists and their passengers, and safe, easy access to the centre for pedestrians.
“Yes, the car park will be flattened,” ISPT National Portfolio Manager Kate Mathewson said.
“Spaces will be updated to the latest Australian Standard as a minimum, with ample disabled spaces, improved car park circulation and spaces for motorbikes.

“The existing car park will be altered and reconfigured, and a new deck will be built on top. The design proposes new vehicle and pedestrian arrangements which will improve access, safety and vehicle movements.”
ISPT assured locals Woolworths and specialty stores will continue to trade throughout construction.
“Maintaining convenient access for our customers and our retailers will be a key priority,” Ms Mathewson said.
She also said the ALDI store will be accessible from the main existing mall.
It is not known whether the car park will be built before ALDI goes in.
“Staging has not yet been determined, however we will aim to minimise disruption and avoid peak trading periods,” Ms Mathewson said.
