A study into the traffic congestion at Bulli and Thirroul under way for more than a year has been scrapped in favour of starting a new report from scratch.

In late 2017 Roads and Maritime Services started work on a Thirroul to Unanderra Network Strategy that would provide solutions to these two frustrating bottlenecks.
However that strategy has now been dropped in favour of a new “Illawarra-Shoalhaven Future Transport Plan”.
According to a Transport for NSW spokesman, work on this new plan hasn’t even started.
“Work on the Illawarra-Shoalhaven Future Transport Plan is planned to commence over the coming months,” the Transport for NSW spokesman said.
“The focus will be on local and regional transport needs and how these fit into the broader regional transport and land use vision, and will provide a framework for future planning and investment decisions.”
The spokesman said Transport for NSW would work with Roads and Maritime Services and other state and local government agencies.
Roads Minister Melinda Pavey has said this new plan will include the Princes Highway route through the northern Illawarra.
The Transport for NSW spokesman declined to state when the replacement report will be completed.
Which means motorists travelling through Bulli and Thirroul will continue to wait for a solution.
The two locations are long-term bottlenecks; with Memorial Drive depositing traffic on the Princes Highway at Bulli the area was already congested.
The building of a supermarket just metres from the Memorial Drive intersection has exacerbated the problem.
In Thirroul, Lawrence Hargrave Drive is the most direct route to get to the various northern suburbs.
On weekends the road is often congested with both local traffic and day trippers out for a Sunday drive.
