The school has advised that it will be non-operational for the first two days of the week so police and fire crews can continue their investigations and safely monitor the demolition of the building.
Authorities have asked that people stay away from the area completely.
“Parents are asked to keep their children home,” the school posted on Facebook about 2pm Saturday.
“Arrangements will be made for students who cannot remain at home, by contacting the school on Monday morning.”
Students sitting HSC exams for the remainder of the week will now undertake their exams at Woonona High School.
“Students and their parents and carers will be contacted individually over the weekend to discuss arrangements and discuss transport needs,” the school said in the post.
“Parents and carers of students in the school’s Special Education Unit will be contacted over the weekend to discuss arrangements for their children.”
Corrimal High also took the chance to express gratitude for the response from emergency crews and nearby residents.
“The Department of Education and the school executive would like to thank the outstanding efforts of Fire and Rescue NSW in containing the fire, the support of NSW Police, and local residents who alerted emergency services of the situation,” the post read.
“The school would also like to express their appreciation for the support and offers of assistance for teaching resources and materials from schools across the state, and from community organisations and individuals in the area.”
Meantime Keira MP Ryan Park has vowed to help the school rebuild after the fire, which destroyed at least six classrooms and damaged three more.
“I have informed the principal and staff who were at the school this morning that I will ensure we get this great comprehensive high school back up and running and that the facilities that have been destroyed replaced as soon as possible,” Mr Park said.
It’s not known yet whether the destroyed building and classrooms contained artworks of students sitting their HSC.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by NSW Police and NSW Fire and Rescue and is being treated as suspicious.
