The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in January this year after the girl disclosed the alleged incidents, said to have occurred in December and early January, to her carer.
She subsequently gave a statement to police, prompting them to charge her father with committing indecent acts and child grooming offences.
During a recorded interview with detectives, which was played at the man’s Local Court hearing on Friday, the 47-year-old said the allegations “horrified” him.
He denied any indecent behaviour had occurred during their weekends together, although admitted he did have “about three of four” pornographic videos at home, which he kept in the cabinet below the television.
“It’s been alleged you watched pornographic videos on a regular basis while [your daughter] was present. Have you watched pornography while [she] was in your unit?” police put to the man.
“No, never,” he responded.
“Your daughter told us when she came to your unit every second Saturday, you would close the curtains in your apartment and put on a pornographic video,” officers said. “No,” he replied.
The man also denied allegations he once pulled his pants down in front of his daughter and asked her to touch his erect penis, and on another occasion masturbated in front of her while they sat on the lounge.
”Never have I ever done that, that’s for sure,” he responded, saying he was “really upset” about his daughter’s allegations.
“I’m horrified about the whole thing…. none of this has ever happened in my whole life or with my daughter.”
The hearing was adjourned to April 11, when the man is expected to give evidence in the defence case.
He agreed – without admissions – to the making of a domestic violence order banning him from approaching or contacting his daughter for two years.
