After a few days of hot weather, Sunday morning’s milder conditions were certainly welcomed by the thousands of people who pulled on their Lycra and strapped on a helmet.
The event, now in its 37th year, saw 10,000 riders tackle an 82km course from Tempe or a shorter 58km ride from Engadine – raising money for people living with multiple sclerosis in the process.
Among them was Tim Hand, from Balmain, who rode from Engadine.
The 64-year-old last did the ride in “howling” wind about 18 years ago, but said Sunday’s conditions – which included a “beautiful sea breeze” – couldn’t have been better.
“It’s a gorgeous ride, just stunning,” Mr Hand said.
“It’s got to be one of the best charity rides, I think, in Australia.”
The ride was capped at 10,000 participants, meaning this year’s event was a sell out.
Donations are still being counted.
