One way or the other a particular tweet from former Townsville coach Shawn Dennis caught our eye last week.
Now coaching in Asia, Dennis tweeted: “So cool to sit back and watch so many ex Crocs doing so well in @NBL this season. Just says we were heading in the right direction on the court. Very exciting watching from afar. SD”
Looking across the NBL now he’s certainly onto something. On current form Mitch Norton, Jordair Jett, Todd Blanchfield, Nick Kay and Brian Conklin would be a more than competitive starting five.
Jett, Blanchfield and Conklin are, of course, currently with Illawarra while Kay – who was rookie of the year with the Crocs – and Norton became Boomers in their two seasons in Wollongong before joining Perth.
Conklin was MVP of the league in his second season in Townsville and the extremely young Crocs had a happy knack of pulling off major upsets despite not making the finals.
It caught people’s attention, with Dennis named the 2016 coach of the year. You have to think he’ll be linked to any NBL coaching role that should arise in future.
