The truck that ploughed though Fairy Meadow McDonald’s on Monday has been found to have major defects.
The truck lost control as it was travelling down Old Mount Ousley Road, mounted a curb and hit a number of cars as it travelled through the Fairy Meadow McDonald’s car park. It came to rest after pinning another car against the Northgate unit complex.
RMS Director of Compliance Roger Weeks said the truck, which was assessed at the RMS Unanderra depot, had been issued with two major defect notices.
One related to the crash damage while the second related to faulty brakes on the rear axle.
Due to the crash damage, the front brakes could not be examined.
Sydney RMS inspectors, working with police, inspected all ten trucks in the Hari Om Transport company fleet, and issued each of them with defect notices of varying degrees, Mr Weeks said.
Six were minor defects, however four were major and included two trucks being given defect notices for faulty brakes.
