Illawarra had four rinks of its Development squad plus another two rinks of emerging players take on South Coast last Sunday and won the opening game 119-88 with the rinks split 3-3.
South Coast bounced back in Game 2 to win 92-77, taking four of the six rinks with Illawarra winning 196-180 overall in what proved a good hit out for the neighbouring associations
Guy Vozza and partners Trent McMillan, Luke Cocksedge and Damien Lateo won both their matches, while skip Mick Weir and his rink were also standouts, winning their two games.
Weir was partnered by Bomaderry duo Geoff Swann and Steve Helson, plus Kiama’s Trevor Boniface with all three bowlers making strong debuts for the Zone 16 rep side.
In the other results from the Development clash, Dapto Citizens’ Trevor Suckley skipped his rink to a win and a loss, while skips Ben Ford, Steve Wills and John Bonham had two losses.
Illawarra officials are looking at their 2019 events program after an offer from Malua Bay BC to host a Development clash in 2019.
Meanwhile, Warilla Women’s BC host its major fundraiser this Sunday (NOV 11) to support Shellharbour Hospital Auxiliary.
Entry to the Mixed Fours event is only $20 per team with single entries welcome. Contact Judy Hirjee on 0407 288201 or email judehirjee@gmail.com for details.
The event is the club’s biggest annual fundraiser with raffles and prizes on the day, plus playing bowls for a great cause.
