The incident had closed the Princes Highway between Daisy Street and Balgownie Road and saw Fairy Meadow Demonstration School put into lockdown.

The Princes Highway has reopened and riot police have left the scene.

Police negotiated with the 23-year-old man who had barricaded himself in a residential property on the Princes Highway for over three hours. 

Dozens of police cars and officers in riot gear descended on the site about 9am.

The suspect was taken away by ambulance under police escort about 12.20pm.
