The business, that specialises in the safe handling, collection, processing and distribution (for sale) of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals, has been operating in Unanderra for over 30 years.
“We buy from a range of sources including the public, metal merchants, automotive dismantlers, demolition and construction companies, farmers and manufacturers who generate scrap metals,” NSW trading manager, Greg Cook said.
“We also process scrap metals for resale by a variety of methods, including sorting, shredding, shearing or baling.
“After processing, recycled metals are sold to both international markets as well as our company owned, Australian-based domestic steel mills including at Rooty Hill in Sydney and BlueScope Steel in Wollongong.”

Liberty OneSteel Recycling is part of the GFG Alliance, an international group of businesses, founded and owned by the British Gupta family. It combines some of the world’s leading industrial, natural and financial resources, working together towards the delivery of a common industrial strategy.
Three years ago GFG Alliance embarked on a journey from being predominantly a metals trader to becoming an integrated industrial and metals business. Since then, they have grown significantly with operations now spanning four continents and almost 20,000 employees.
The company is helping to lead Australia to a more sustainable future.
“If you have an old stove, washing machine, lead batteries, copper wire, aluminium or brass; require a permanent bin or need a large site clean-up, just give us a call,” Greg said.
“Private and business customers can also deliver directly to our yard in Unanderra. We have an automated weighbridge and our non-ferrous section is completely undercover.”
Liberty OneSteel Recycling can cater for all customer requirements both big and small and they offer friendly service with quick turnaround times.
“Our off-site services include the placement of scrap metal bins for collection, site clean-ups and industrial customers,” Greg said.
“For larger parcels we can work at your site using a mobile plant such as excavators, balers and oxy-cutters.”
The recycling yard in Unanderra services the Wollongong, Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern NSW areas and is working with customers to help build sustainability through safe and effective environmental management of metal recycling.
