On Monday morning, the electronic music lords announced an outdoor event at MacCabe Park on March 1 – the new addition to their partially sold-out Solace Australian tour.
The show will be the same size as the Sidney Myer Music Bowl gigs in Melbourne.
“We particularly love the outdoor setting,” Jon George from the group told the Mercury.
“Right now [in San Francisco] I’m looking out at very a dark moody blue sky, that sort of moonlight, and that’s what I remember from Wollongong last time.”
George said they were excited to play their new album Solace – with songs like Underwater and Lost My Mind.
While he believed the music scene in the Illawarra was growing, hence choosing the city which is “within reaching distance of Sydney”.
“From when I was last there, there’s more nights popping up and a lot of focus on cool sort of house music, which I super respect,” George said.
The announcement comes as Illawarra-based record label Farmer and the Owl have announced they will also present a festival at MacCabe Park the following day on March 2.
Rufus Du Sol’s Australian Solace tour follows a rigorous two-year world tour which saw the band perform everywhere from California’s Coachella, to Serbia’s EXIT.
The new live show will have an emphasis on jamming and live improvisation including utilizing a host of new analog gear on stage plus a revamped visual setup.
Previously, the Innerbloom and You Were Right hit-makers were known as Rufus though added “Du Sol” to differentiate themselves from an overseas artist also using the same name.
Pre-sale registration for the MacCabe Park concert are open until 5pm Wednesday November 14. Pre-sale tickets are on sale from 9am Thursday November 15 to 8am Friday November 16. General public tickets are on sale from 9am Friday November 16.
Other cities on the tour include Sydney’s Field Day festival plus shows in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Margaret River and Brisbane.
Tickets to the Wollongong show will be available via Moshtix.
